How to Network like a Pro in Your Co-working Space

17-11-2018   |   by EDITORIAL TEAM   |   Coworking

Those days of working in traditional offices with the boss breathing down your neck are long gone! Co-working is the new mantra of success for small and medium businesses, freelancers, and consultants. These are essentially spaces where professionals from different companies and backgrounds come together to work in peace, and also productively. This not only paves the way for a lower rent than what you have to pay for a conventional office space, but also allows you to network with other like-minded professionals in a smart, aesthetic and distraction-free environment.

This networking can help you to exchange various ideas with others, receive suggestions for new projects, and even land new projects or hire a professional who you think will be perfect for the job at hand! And all of this will happen without you having to step out of your co-working space.

Now, here are some tips that will help you to start networking like a pro.

  • Before you engage in an important conversation with people in your office, you have to break the ice. Begin with a hello and talk about general topics before you move on to career-related or project-related conversations.  Making small talk can help you and the other person build a rapport quickly.

  • At times, relations at workplaces are built based on trade swap. Let your connections know that you are willing to offer them services if need be, and also show your willingness to seek their expertise for your work. For example, if you are a content developer, you can always offer content writing services to your peers.

  • Try to understand the moods of your colleagues, as it is extremely important. The energy level-of every professional in your office space does not necessarily have to match yours. Some may be reserved while some others may be brimming with excitement. You need to have some clarity about how much information to share with each and how and when you can do it.

  • Make sure you invest in business cards. No matter how great a conversation you have with –people in your co-working space, a business card can always increase the chances of the person contacting you. So it is advisable to share your contact information in a professional manner.

  • Coworking spaces regularly conduct events that are aimed at bringing together the community of professionals that work there. Be a part of such events to make the right connections. These events are great places for finding your next recruit as well.

  • Take a break! That’s right. A break in between work does not just help you to relax but to network as well. Make use of the break rooms and other common areas to meet new people and network over a cup of coffee or lunch.

Use the above tips at your co-working office space to network efficiently. Good networking is not just helpful for your business, but it can also help you to find friends who share similar life goals and interests.
